Matthew Galluzzo, a former prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney’s elite Sex Crimes Unit, has been recruited by USAID to travel to South Africa to train prosecutors on modern and proper techniques for investigating rape allegations. He will spend time in Cape Town and Johannesburg as part of this important assignment.

Matt is head designamat.net of the firm’s energy focus group for Sub-Saharan Africa, co-ordinating the firm’s concentration on this sector across the region. He regularly works on complex projects involving renewable and alternative energy sources, including hydrogen, as well as the transition from fossil fuels to clean technology.

Matt grew up in South Africa and lived in London as a student, but has always wanted to return to live in Africa. After graduating university, he joined a charity in Uganda for a year, teaching at a primary school and volunteering in the local hospital. During his time there, he climbed the three Virunga volcanoes and Mount Elgon, and was fortunate enough to see gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. He has also volunteered for Modisa Wildlife Project in Botswana and is a regular visitor to his friends’ game farms.
